Special Education Teacher’s Assistant – Pleasanton CA

Position Summary

Teamwork Therapies is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to provide school-based special education services in the Pleasanton, California area.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about California special education requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students with special needs
• Assist students with classroom activities, assignments, and daily routines
• Support the development of academic, social, communication, and life skills
• Follow Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and teacher-directed strategies
• Help implement behavior-support and positive-reinforcement strategies
• Assist students with transitions between activities and classroom settings
• Encourage participation, independence, and confidence
• Observe student progress and communicate concerns or successes to the supervising teacher
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other members of the educational team
• Help maintain a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment
• Provide assistance with personal care or mobility needs when required by a student’s educational
• program

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Experience working with children, students with disabilities, or in a school setting preferred
• Patient, compassionate, dependable, and comfortable supporting students with a variety of needs
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow direction from teachers and members of the treatment or educational team
• Ability to remain calm, encouraging, and supportive during challenging situations
• A genuine commitment to helping students reach their individual goals
• Strong classroom-management and behavior-support skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with families, school staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple student cases, deadlines, and documentation requirements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a California public, charter, non-public, or special education school setting.
• Experience serving students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, mild intellectual disabilities, emotional or behavioral needs, and other mild to moderate support needs.
• Experience working with elementary, middle, and/or high-school students.
